I'm not going to be renting a movie, or going to the movie theater for 5 months.

ben, you should add the travel books Chuck Thompson wrote to you list to read, i think you'd like them. the only 2 i've read are: "to hellholes and back", and "smile while you're lying".

[...] I went snorkeling every day, swam for hours, and just read under a nice awning right on the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen (mostly because I think the water is an amazing color). Plus enjoyed some rum, got a zillion new freckles, rented a jeep for a few days and drove all around the island to try other beaches, sampled a lot of french bakeries, ate a lot of fish, etc. And I read 21 books while on break, so I’ve hit my goal for this year with having read 124 books so far!
Awesome thanks, just bought Acacia and going to try book 2 with Malazan. Been having a hard time finding new stuff and tired of reading serious books.

Awesome, bought those to! I've read the accidental time machine a few years back and it was pretty good!

Thanks! I highly recommend:
- The Warded Man Series
- The Blade Itself series - super dark though
- The Mistborn series
- The Long Man and the Point Man - Awesome books, a bit different though.

Yes, I read a lot of fantasy and some amount of sci-fi. Here are some suggestions of things I've liked:

Acacia by David Anthony Durham. The third book comes out in October. He used to write historical fiction so there's a bit of that feel in his writing, but these books are set in a totally new world. Good LONG reads.

I LOVED the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson. I saw where you struggled with book 1. I did too, but by the end of that book I felt like I finally "got it" and kept reading the series. I thought it was amazing and different with characters that you truly come to love and a universe that is very different. There are tons of twists and turns and so many characters that it was sometimes hard to keep track of everything, but I found it well worth the time.

I've been reading a lot of Joe Haldeman recently. The Forever War, Camoflauge, and The Accidental Time Machine. My favorite parts of his books are the social commentary that's buried in them. It is amazing to me to read the Forever War that was written in 1977 and think about his social perspective at the time and what it must have been to write that book the way he did.

I recently read a very quick trilogy by Kevin Hearne (Hexed, Hounded, and Hammered) that I really liked. Each book was very quick, but the story was fun and well written.
