Santiago Chile is a mess, went for a run for what is my 2nd day here and I had to stare at my feet as I ran because you can see the smog just looking down the road a mere 15 feet. The only place I&#8217;ve ever seen this bad was Cairo Egypt. The city is surrounded by snow capped moutains and I can barely see them over the dirty smog covered film, it&#8217;s gross.</p>

<p>Guess I&#8217;m going to have to find a gym to run in for the month of May while I&#8217;m here.</p>
<p>They have a pretty good running path although surrounded by 6 lane traffic. Better than most cities but still sucks, the pollution is out of control. Hopefully they can <a href="http://www.nowpublic.com/environment/bangkok-city-fumes-no-more">pull a Bangkok and fix pollution as quickly as possible</a>.</p>

<p>Take a hard look at this wine. A hard look.</p>
<p>Got it?</p>
<p>This wine is fucked up.</p>
<p>It created about a 1.5 to 2 hour conversation. First we thought the wine had gone bad, then we just thought it was bad wine, then we realized it smelled like Tequila, then we thought it was bad wine, then we though it had gone bad. Repeat.</p>
<p>It did test like Tequila. It might have been tequila and cranberry juice. We ordered shots of tequila and confirmed it tasted/smelled like tequila. Theories of plants mating between fields emerged, genetic science, nano technology, it&#8217;s hard to say what &#8220;man&#8221; did to this poor wine.</p>
<p>A small 33.3% of the crowed surveyed indicated it tasted like cigarettes. </p>
<p>Then Joel detected a faint port taste, which was confirmed. It was still bad wine, which smelled like tequila, and for the first 10 mili seconds tasted like port.</p>
<p>This is the modern art of wine. It challenges what you think &#8220;good&#8221; wine is. And as Joel said, &#8220;this is the wine that will bring you back to when you first tasted wine as a kid&#8221;. Because it is fracking gross. And challenging? The thing is they make good wine, so are they purposefully making bad wine? What is good wine? What is bad wine? Where am i? </p>
<p><b>RATING: NEARLY UNDRINKABLE</B><br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I spent the last ~12 days in Patagonia in <a href="http://wikitravel.org/en/El_Chalten">El Chalten Argentina</a>! It was amazing! It is nestled right against some amazing mountains as you can see from the below pictures.  </p>
<p>The first 5 or 6 days were pretty cold, windy, and wet but the last week was beautiful with clear blue skies and barely any wind. I hiked a ton, saw quite a few glaciers, did a few trail runs, and had a few days of going so high I was trudging through snow. Great trip and very relaxing. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I spent a week in <a href="http://www.lonelyplanet.com/maps/south-america/argentina/map_of_argentina.jpg">Mendoza</a> with Rose and Steve and had a blast! Mendoza is in the largest wine growing region of Argentina and next to a lot of mountains (which you can see the snow capped peaks in the below pictures). We drank a lot of wine, went on a day long biking tour of vineyards, and ended up at a small beer garden. We were there the week before the massive wine festival, glad we missed that as prices for a place to stay doubled and looked like it was going to be crazy. Great running too, they have a fantastic huge park with trails in Mendoza.</p>
<p>It takes 14 to 16 hours on a bus to get to Mendoza from Argentina, basically going width wise across the entire country. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;ve been in BA for about 3 weeks and it is an amazing city! I&#8217;ve been working a lot so when I&#8217;ve had free time just been wandering around a bit, so not too much to report. Mostly I have been enjoying the amazing food and wine :)</p>
<p>I love my apartment and a few pictures below, it is super funky and located in the San Telmo historic district. Huge 12 foot ceilings with huge windows, small deck, etc. Rose and Steve are staying with me for a few weeks before they head to Uruguay. </p>
<p>I&#8217;ve back to running as hoping to start doing some races in 3 to 4 months once I&#8217;m back to longer distances. The sidewalks around BA are not too bad, I twisted my ankle yesterday on a curb but I blame Argentina women for that as sometimes your eyes can&#8217;t believe they are wearing heels that tall. I&#8217;ve been running at <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buenos_Aires_Ecological_Reserve">the Buenos Aires Ecological Reserve</a> which is only a <a href="http://www.lonelyplanet.com/argentina/buenos-aires/sights/outdoors/reserva-ecologica-costanera-2">mile from my place</a> and <a href="http://buenosaires.for91days.com/2011/04/22/the-resevera-ecologica-costanera-sur/">amazing</a>! Full of grass/dirt paths, quiet, tons of birds, and next to the ocean/river/marsh. I highly recommend running there if you are in BA. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I was reading a book today about the history of cities and one of the little tidbits I really enjoyed was that the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HarperCollins">Harper Brothers</a> and many other publishers pirated books to sell locally. Which is funny considering their positions now.</p>

Like many publishers of the 1800s, Harper Bros. took advantage of the lack of international copyright enforcement. The firm printed pirated copies of works by such British authors as Charles Dickens, William Make-peace Thackeray, and Anne, Charlotte, and Emily Brontë. Harper Bros.&#8217; best-selling pirated work by a British author was Thomas Babington Macaulay&#8217;s History of England from the Accession of James II. The book sold approximately 400,000 copies, a figure that would classify it as a nonfiction bestseller at the turn of the twentieth century. Because international copyright laws were not enforced, U.S. publishers did not pay royalties to either the British authors or their publishers. The American market had grown to be so significant that, in 1842, Dickens traveled to the United States in an effort to secure royalties from the sale of his works. He was unsuccessful at recouping this money, but the trip did give Dickens the material for his book American Notes for General Circulation, which Harper Bros. promptly pirated.

<p>Just makes you realize that once you are in power the way you got that power quickly becomes &#8220;illegal&#8221;. You see the same thing with online startups, they abuse all kinds of spam rules, or what they do with information and once they have grown they rewrite history to pretend they didn&#8217;t do x.</p>

<p>Another Malbec, and yet another bottle where I can barely read who made it. What is with all the fancy writing people? Ya ya it&#8217;s cool. This wine was ok, but a bit acidic or something I couldn&#8217;t put my taste buds on. And not as smooth as the last one, maybe a bit too fruity and acidic. I think that was it.</p>
<p>That said, I drank it.</p>
